Database engines, Transaction Processing, and Licensing
Posted in 1994
We have a large transaction processing environment, similar to Top End, Tuxedo or Encina (but homegrown), which funnels a large number of end users into a small number of worker processes. We use Informix OnLine to run the database underlying the whole scheme. In previous versions we had to purchase one user license per worker process. We have been informed that, for future versions, we will have to purchase one user license per end user, greatly increasing the cost of our system. Can anyone tell me how Sybase, Oracle and other database vendors licensing terms regarding transaction processing systems? Either reply here, or by private email. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~ Jim Burks jburks@promus.com ~ ~ Project Manager, Adv.
