In the ordinary course of events, the answer to both questions is No. One major problem area is the data types, especially Informix-specific ones such as DATE, DECIMAL, DATETIME, etc. You might be able to find gateway products which allow an Informix-ESQL/C application to connect to a non-Informix databases; there used to be gateway products for accessing DB2, for instance, though I'm not sure whether these are still current products. You might be able to use a non-Informix ESQL/C compiler on Informix ESQL/C code (and I4GL generates ESQL/C code), but it is unlikely to handle the Informix types and use the Informix headers so it is much more likely to be impossible than possible. Certainly, unless the program was explicitly written to be portable between ESQL/C compilers, I wouldn't expect it to work.
