Extra user connections from a synonym

Hi, I am using Online 4.10 and I-Net on a Sun 4.1.3 network Recently I have added code to our applications that allow them to access a remote database via synonyms. In doing this the number of user connections to the database engine on the remote machine has dramatically increased. My Questions are 1) Does accessing a remote database, via a synonym create a new 'user' on the remote machine. 2) If so why does this new 'user' continue to exist after the synonym has stop being referenced i.e the program uses the synonym to do a single read so why does the connection continue to exist after the read is finished 3) Is there any way to force this extra 'user' connection to close down once the synonym is not in use. -- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Phillip Drury.
