As you later posted, cpio -ivdumB < IDS2000.cpi would have worked for you. There is a significant difference in the expected format for cpio archives when you do and don't specify the -c flag. You have to be consistent. If the file lists without -c, then the extract does not need the -c option; if the file lists with the -c, then the extract needs the -c option. What's worse, Linux seems to have the use of the -c flag backwards from the rest of Unix.
