Kevin,
actually, dedicating a dpspace (or a dbspace set) to a database *is* the
best way to separate them for individual archive. Of course, you might
have to use OnArchive in order to accomplish the actual backup. By now
there are surely other backup utilities that accomplish the same goal.
If you have a huge enough machine WRT main memory, you might consider a
few separate instances of OnLine and strategically distribute your
databases among these. Then you could still run OnTape to separately
backup the group of databases in each instance.
At the User Conference in '95 I met a vendor whose archive product went
through the pages on disk and copied [to tape] the rows in the data
pages in "unload" format. And this one *did* one database at a time.
Sorta like a more intelligent dbexport. Unfortunately, I do not
remember the name of the vendor. Someone in Virginia someplace, I
think. If we're lucky, someone at that vendor's site will see this post
and pipe up.
