I don't know about 3.1 explicitly, but we have customers running on 7.30 & 7.31. Check with Baan for the supported porting set for the version of IDS you intend to use. If you are converting from T-Base to IDS, then yes you will incur a performance hit. The level-1 drivers were written for flat file architectures. The level-2 driver is (allegedly) written for RDBMS's. You have to compare the loss in performance to the gain in robustness in terms of your business.
