Well, if you have Samba 2.2.x or 3.x and Solaris 2.6, 7 or Solaris 8 below Kernel Jumbo Patch -19 or Solaris 9 below KJP -07 and more than ~280 Users you will see that the old Solaris flock implementation is far too slow. If you have an older Samba you won't see any Problems. Shouldn't that 20,000 user University be looking at LDAP or NT authentication or something? Or one of them 20,000 students should perhaps put in a bit of effort to plug in optimised routines for the user lookup on large sites.... after all, it is open source.
