Question on encryption

Hello, I just received a question about encryption. The question was originally based on encryption of an MS Access database, but Informix was discussed as an alternative. I'm not aware of any encryption capability built into Informix itself. I think that any encryption would have to be handled in the application or by some third-party software that I'm unfamiliar with. Does this sound correct? Is there a better answer that I can give? Thanks very much for your help. Kind regards, John Bejarano, bebe jbejaran@bebe.com

Generally correct, however (there's always an however), if you have the Universal Data Option (IDS/UDO) you can easily develop a datablade, indeed there may already be one (I do not follow all the datablades that are out there), to implement encrypted columns or even entirely encrypted tables. Contact Informix to find out if an encryption datablade is out there. Art S. Kagel
