Assert Failed: No Exception Handler

Here's a fun one, our Informix server ( HP-US B.11.11 9000/800 running Informix 9.40.UC5 ) decided it did not want to keep running this morning. Here's the message that popped up in our logs: 10:53:48 10:53:48 IBM Informix Dynamic Server Version 9.40.HC5 Software Serial Number AAA#B000000 10:53:48 Assert Failed: No Exception Handler 10:53:48 Who: Session(254001, suarezj@10.52.90.84, -1, 802ecf38) Thread(273306, sqlexec, 838b65fc, 1) File: mtex.c Line: 431 10:53:48 Results: Exception Caught. Type: MT_EX_OS, Context: mem 10:53:48 Action: Please notify IBM Informix Technical Support. 10:53:48 Stack for thread: 273306 sqlexec base: 0x87d5d000 len: 69632 pc: 0x00000000 tos: 0x87d5e9c0 state: running vp: 1 This is the second time in ten days that we've seen an assertion after almost never having them before. IBM suggested that we up our SHMADD and the number of soctcp connections. I have a pretty complete dump from evidence.sh (2.5 MB ). Are you running HDR? Couple of things I would do start with: 1. Looking for last executed statement either by shared memory dump or by grepping "onstat -g ses" from af file. If you have got shared memory dump, then you can find last executed statement as: onstat -g ses 254001 <location of shmmen dump) 2. Contacting IBM as you have already done. Since this is memory related assert failure, tunning SHMADD and NETTYPE may help, as advised by IBM but I would do this on TEST server first. 3.
