IDS- How to find sbspace storage utilization
Posted in 2009

I was trying to find out the storage utilized by dbspace, sbspace and blobspace.
I have executed the following query in dbaccess
select c.pagesize pagesize,d.name dbspace,c.chksize totalpages,c.nfree
freepages,
c.fname filename from syschunks c, sysdbspaces d where d.dbsnum = c.dbsnum;
For sbspace, I was getting the following output
pagesize 2048
dbspace sbspace1
totalpages 51200
freepag 2581
filename /opt/data/sbspace_chunk1
But when I compared the value with onstat -d, I was getting a different value
for sbspace "free pages"
Onstat output is given below
Chunks
address chunk/dbs offset size free bpages flags pathname
10a5de028 1 1 0 50000 35329 PO-B /opt/IBM/informix/demo/server/online_root
10a5de410 2 2 100 51200 10231 10240 POBB /opt/data/blob_chunk1
10a5de5f8 3 3 0 51200 10231 10240 POBB /opt/data/blob_chunk2
10a5de7e0 4 4 0 51200 47678 47678 POSB /opt/data/sbspace_chunk1
Metadata 3469 2581 3469
4 active, 32766 maximum
As per onstat -d, spspace "free page" 47678 that is far away from dbaccess out
put for sbspace "free page"(2581).
My problem is the value for spspace free page reported by dbaccess is not
matching with onstat -d output.
I strongly believe that values reported by onstat -d is correct
How can I calculate sbspace "free page size" using SMI tables?
I am using IDS 11.10 on Solaris.
Any help to solve the problem is highly appreciated.
Thank you.

For an sbspace chunk, the syschunks fields are interpreted as follows:
- msize is the size of the meta data area,
- nfree is the number of free metadata pages,
- udsize is the size of the remaining data area, and
- udfree is the free data pages available.

For an SBSpace you need to also count the Meta Data Total and Free
Pages. You may find this SQL useful, run it against the sysmaster
database. You may also need to run onstat -d update so that the values
match at a point in time.
SELECT
TRIM(name), -- SpaceName
SUM(chksize), -- Total Size
SUM(udsize), -- UD Size
SUM(udfree), -- UD Free
ROUND ((SUM(udfree)) / (SUM(udsize)) * 100, 2), -- UD % Free
SUM(mdsize), -- MD Size
SUM(nfree), -- MD Free
ROUND ((SUM(nfree)) / (SUM(mdsize)) * 100, 2) -- MD % Free
FROM sysdbspaces d, syschunks c
WHERE d.dbsnum = c.dbsnum
AND is_sbspace = 1
GROUP BY 1
