dbservername conventions

How do other shops name their online instances? We are new to Informix and want to set up our environment intelligently. We are a large multi-state bank with a fairly sophisticated network. We will be putting two servers, in different states, to run a new application. In the future we expect to place other servers running other applications using Informix at several other locations. I am trying to come up with a naming standard that makes due recognition of what the online instance is there for, where it is located, and if there are multiple instances for that application on that Unix server. This can lead to complex dbservernames that I fear will only confuse people and be very different from what other Informix shops are doing. If anyone could advise what they do at their shops, I would sure appreciate it.
