Next Extent Mystery

Hi, I am currently running IDS 9.21.UC3 on a Sun platform. As I was doing some checks ealrier today I found that one of the tables was fast running out of space on it's current extent (100MB free). Based on the DB Schema, the next extent request is 2GB while the total unallocated free space for the dbspace was 1.9GB. As we prepared an offline machine to execute a DB Export/Import, the current extent space was exhausted. I was expecting some sort of ISAM error in the online log, but instead, the IDS engine continued to function. But what is really odd, after the current extent space was exhausted, IDS somehow dropped 3GB of data and did not request the next extent. Can anyone please help me to explain what would cause this.
