Re: Unix to NT database connectivity problems

Mark, to resolve the 908 error you will need to look
into all the components of the connectivity equation, below is
a checklist that you can employ.
====CHECKLIST FOR 908 error
Ensure engine is online and all environment variables are set correctly.
Check hosts file for machine name and ip address.
Make sure they can ping server by ip address and by name.
ping by name from server: note ip address
ping by name from client: ip address should match
If it does not, this may be a DNS issue.
Ensure only unique port numbers are being used in services files.
If using remote connection try connecting locally. (network and
shared memory)
If using remote client make sure client service is using the same port number
the server network connection is using. Change password option to password in
setnet. Try connection using ilogin on windows.
Check network connection in sqlhosts file. Verify working properly.
If port number works in sqlhosts but service name doesn't, may be an
NIS/Yellow Pages problem.
Are multiple network cards being used on server? If so put an * for the
machine name in the sqlhosts file.
Try using a different port number.
Bounce the engine.

I was able to use DBAccess and other Informix utilities from the HP's to work on the remote NT systems before the Service Pack upgrades. All other communications with the remote NT databases work properly.
