Re: XPS with/without "alter table" capabilities

Wendy, Currently XPS does not support alter table clauses, so you are correct that you must unload/reload the table. I understand that in 8.2 (due out sometime in the 1st quarter??) the XPS engine will be enhanced to be more like ODS, until that time there are many "irregularities" to deal with. Other ones are - no triggers - no RI - no stored procedures XPS is currently a DSS only engine (does not support many things necessary for OLTP). There are many benefits to XPS though, it is 50% faster than ODS, there are SQL improvements, hash joins, hash fragmentation just to name a few. If you want more info just send me some email - I don't want to bore the other folks out there jim ______________________________ Reply Separator _________________________________ Subject: XPS with/without "alter table" capabilities Author: Wendy Hu <Wendy_Hu@sabre.com> at Internet Date: 10/6/97 4:36 PM I am new to INFORMIX ... I've heard that informix XPS does not support "alter table" command to add new columns to existing table ... Basically, DBA has to drop/recreate table and move data from old to new. Just wonder if there are any other XPS contraints like that ??? Any information will be very appreciated.
