Backup and recover requirements ? etc etc How about 2000 POS instances with common data replicated and distributed and managed by a team of 3 DBAs one of whom pitches in part time. How about 10000 replicated instances with update anywhere replication handling millions of transactions per day managed by a team of 6 dbas. How about 6 instances on a single 32way Sun server managing ~100 databases replicated to 6 other instances on a sister machine plus 60 other production instances on 60 machines with replication plus 12 development servers with multiple instances all managed by a single DBA-of-the-day. How about every base of one branch of a certain major country's military with an Informix instance and no DBAs. Art S. Kagel

Kagel Some of what you wrote is impressive. Some of it not. But I definitely like the last item. Perhaps this explains the lack of jobs for people with Informix as a skill set. <g> Happy holidays. -- Daniel A. I will follow up at work and see what I can find > How about 10000 replicated instances with update anywhere replication > handling millions of transactions per day managed by a team of 6 dbas. Nope - well, maybe. This sounds very impressive - is this a branch (distributed) system, or a Data Farm on a colo environment (a la MySQL) ? > How about 6 instances on a single 32way Sun server managing ~100 > databases replicated to 6 other instances on a sister machine plus 60 > other production instances on 60 machines with replication plus 12 > development servers with multiple instances all managed by a single > DBA-of-the-day. Well - what about multiple production and development instances on 2 big Superdomes with around 65 TB of managed storage between them, with 2 DBA's ? Close enough ? Ex Informix customer by the way. > > How about every base of one branch of a certain major country's military > with an Informix instance and no DBAs. Nope. Yes to every branck, no to the no DBAs
BTW - if you see a lack of response for the next few days it's not because I have capitulated - rather moving house and not sure when I will have broadband access again
