Help on Archive
Posted in 1995
Hi all,
I am faced with having to do an archive of a 75 GB database within a 6 hour
time frame.
We cannot perform an On-Line archive because our clients do not wish to add the
complexity of administrating logical log tapes spaning over different days, and
the degregation of performance.
I have looked at the following options:
Informix Version 6.0 on Sun Solaris 2.3 on RAID 5
====================================
1) onarchive - too slow and buggy
2) dd - we can dd from one raw device to another, then perform ontape on the
later via another instance. This method
will not update the archive information on the "real" instance. This
information is necessary for full and logical log restore.
3) optimize RAID - Informix seems to max out reads at 2 MB/s Vs. 3 MB/s using
'dd'. This is due to page qualification Informix
has to perform to determine if the current page should be archived or not.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
