IDS 9.4 support for UTF-8 encoding.

Hi, I've been using IDS 9.4 for zh_TW.big5 locale correctly - all this has been detailed in the Ifx GLS guide (XX_LOCALE, etc..) So far, so good. Now... ...our app. has to support UTF-8 now - so as to support all possible languages. Hence, I started looking through the GLS guide - but it says not a single word about UTF-8 or how do I enable this support in IDS (apart from a casual mention that all Informix products support UNICODE in the glossary.) Also, googling over for various related keywords, I came across various values for DB_LOCALE to be en_US.utf8, ja_JP.utf8. Now, my confusion has doubled - if the data stored in IDS tables is UTF-8 encoded, where does the question of locales' arise ? Should it not be sufficient for me to say DB_LOCALE="utf8", and all done ? Can anyone throw some light on this ? Thanks in advance for all your help. Have a good day. Cheers, Amarendra -- Destiny is not a matter of chance, it is a matter of choice.
It's described in the release notes for IDS 9.40 in the section 'GLS Enhancements'. Note when using UTF-8 then GL_USELGU must be set to the same value on both the server and the application.
