Ed - I'm not intimately familiar with HP, but both your engine and OS release sound pretty old. I'd get as current as possible first, then pursue the problems. At that point, you should be able to run with NUMCPUVPS = physical processors. If you can't its a bug - beat on Informix and/or HP until its fixed. Telling you to run with it set to one is the next worst suggestion after "turn it off, and the errors will go away". No Kidding. So will your job.
