RE: Upgrade from 9.4 to 11.10

Hardware is same (no hardware upgrade, just changing versions on existing equipment) and licensing taken care of, just looking for feedback/suggestions for onconfig parameters. If there are 16 cores you pay 16 PVU licenses priced at the number of PVUs each at which the processor is rated. That's regardless of whether you run 1 CPU VP only or 100 CPU VPs per core, the licensing is the same. The only thing you can do is to define a virtual environment which only has access to N cores rather than all of the cores on the system and run the engine within that environment. In that case IBM permits what is known as sub-capacity licensing of the number of virtual CPU cores that the VM is configured to access. Art Art S. If not, then what you have is good (I looked at it fast so I may be missed a few things). I personally like 1 cpuVP per real cpu (or core) for simplicity and price (4 informix licenses instead of 16) but only if performance stays about the same. Your 5 databases in one instance scares me but you probably don't have a choice in that matter. If you are migrating to new hardware, then consider just using your production on it (drop the other DB's) and keep your old (hopefully upgraded) hardware for test and development. And for your DSS queries, try invoking LIGHT SCANS with "export LIGHT_SCANS=FORCE", "SET ISOLATION TO DIRTY READ" and "SET PDQPRIORITY 0". -L.S. _______________________________________________ Informix-list mailing list Informix-list@iiug.org http://www.iiug.org/mailman/listinfo/informix-list
