An overdue question for Double Echo.... Since you admittedly have never worked for Informix or IBM, with all the long-winded ideas you have - have you applied for a job there yet? You seem to have keen insights - or at least strong opinions - on what they have or haven't done right with the Informix product. You seem to know A GREAT DEAL about how they should handle, well, uh, "everything".....what stops you from wanting to work there? Please let us know when you apply for a job at IBM. We'll watch closely to see if someone that hasn't worked for Informix OR IBM can do better. I guess all of the ex-Informix people didn't know enough...although knowing quite a few of them very well, I know they tried very, VERY hard. Cheers - Me

Or, I probably don't fit the corporate profile IBM is looking for. They would want a conformist, somebody who walks the party line, thinks inside the box, doesn't make waves, never reaches out to end users and takes risks. They will continue to find plenty of those kind of people so they don't need me until they are ready for somebody with balls to come in and make things happen, with a real budget of course to market and advertise the product. Then possibly things might happen, but it still might be a lost cause. > Please let us know when you apply for a job at IBM. Please contact me off-line if you're serious, and want my help. > We'll watch closely > to see if someone that hasn't worked for Informix OR IBM can do better. You probably can't afford me. > I guess all of the ex-Informix people didn't know enough...although > knowing quite a few of them very well, I know they tried very, VERY > hard. > It's not only what you know, it's what you do with what you have. The road to hell is paved with good intentions. The history of Informix tells me a lot of great, fantastically good people were involved in the trenches and a lot of greedy, arrogant, and ignorant people were involved at the top, many who took the money and ran out the back door at the end. Then you have the vultures who carved up the remains and made even more money off of it. Today, good intentions appear to come from many in the trenches, and a paltry, throw-em-a-bone effort seems to be coming from the top--or at least the marketing dept. But as long as IBM sits on Informix it appears to be a lost cause. The real question for me, I'm starting to wonder if IBM is sitting on Informix or if they actually have given free reign to a bunch of incompetents to make things happen. You can help me overcome the challenges in my mind by finishing this sentence: I would want to work for the Informix brand because _______________________. > Cheers - > Me When I have a beer in my hand I say cheers.
