RE: replication

The older HDR, or High-availability Data Replication, replicates everything in one instance over to another instance (log-based replication); very robust, very simple to set up and administer, but rather restrictive; single primary to single secondary only (secondary is in read-only mode); excellent choice for hot-site backup. The newer ER, or Enterprise Replication, AKA CDR, replicates specified data at the table level (transaction-based replication); extremely flexible, but quite complicated; multiple source to multiple target capability; best for data distribution / consolidation strategies, or for an "update anywhere" strategy. We use HDR quite a bit here, and have looked at ER for "update anywhere" capability, but have not ventured there yet. HTH ================================ Paul A.
