DDS and OLTP on the same database
Posted in 2007
Hi, First, sorry my poor English... Did is possible work with a mix of configuration , DDS and OLTP on the same database efficiently? The machine have a multiple CPUs . The version of IDS will be 10 or 11.10 . The storage have multiple devices. I have a situation where the database is OLTP and it have some LOG tables where grow up fast and are used with low frequency by users to generate reports. About one of this log tables: - have some amount of 60GB - grow up at least 1GB by month - 3 indexes. - One of this 3 indexes is used to ordering a report - They amount is of 15GB. This size is because it is compose of 6 columns. What I want to do is force the SQLs on this tables work with parallel, light scans and sort on memory : - Create a new dbspace with different and unused page, something like 16k. - Moving this table to new dbspace (made the appropriate fragmentation) - do not create any index. - Configure the bufferpool with a very small size to this page size - Configure the shared memory with size sufficient to hold DS buffers... - configure DS_TOTAL_MEMORY, DS_* appropriately... - Work with developers of the system to change the reports code to active PDQPRIORITY and tunning the SQL.
