onstat -u ( Active threads increasing )
Posted in 2008
Topics: Platform-Specific Issues
Dear all,
IDS 11.10.FC1X1 on Linux .
onstat -u normally has < 1000 active userthreads.but today we are facing a issue where the no of threads are increasing & may
be because of which the shared mem requirement is increasing hence virtual
segments are added by the database after short intervals.
the no of active threads reaches the maximum limit and then we get a error in
online.log and no further user's get's any thread to connect.
it seems that the no of sessions are not increasing but the no of user threads
are not released.dont know if this is the actuall case.
We found that all the threads are taken & not released by one user ie our web
application user .
onstat -g ses session id for that user shows
session #RSAM total used dynamic
id user tty pid hostname threads memory memory explain
1791 jdb - -1 webserver 122 4956160 4858568 off

.
.
.
we have restarted the web application server and also the database server but
still same thing is happening again .
the no of userthreads are increasing towards its threshold limit.
The information that i have says there is change made in application code.
no changes in database configuration either.
Pls Help ,let me know what more do i have to check & what more information do
i have to collect.
Thanks
Vikas.
The optimizer has changed its plan, perhaps? has something changed? ? did
someone run update statistics recently? try running update statistics on all
stored procedure (W/O using PDQ). Hope this helps.

I would update statistics with PDQPRIOITY set to 0
dbaccess database -
set pdqpriority 0;
update statistics for procedure;
