Onbar/ TSM / logcal log tape mounts
Posted in 2006

We have been using ontape processing and are now wanting to move to using
onbar with Tivoli.
Everything seemed simple to get going and I have been successful in doing test
backups and recoveries.
The problem is that it appears I will be unable to use it in production due to
the onbar continuous logging process holding a tape mount. Our ten production
instances would consume all the tape mounts for the whole organization
supported by our TSM.
How has your shop gotten around this bottleneck?
IDS 9.4.fc6
TSM 5.2.1

Don't do continuous backups ... use the alarmprogram.sh located in
$INFORMIXDIR/etc ... that will fire off a backup each time a log is
switched.

Rogers,
The way we did it at a client site was to configure Tivoli to backup to a
disk pool and Tivoli handles sending it to the tape therefore no tape drives
are being held by the onbar process. You need to configure your disk pool
for Tivoli accordingly. Talk to your TSM administrator about this.
