IDS 11.70
Posted in 2010
After upgrading to IDS 11.70, connecting via Carsten Haese's informixdb Python module always failed with SQLCODE -28021 ("trusted connection was not established... trusted context not defined or enabled"), regardless of database name or user/password, while dbaccess connected fine. The poster first worked around it by granting DBSECADM and defining a CREATE TRUSTED CONTEXT for his user/IP, but Fernando Nunes warned this merely relaxed security and masked a likely bug. The real fix: rebuild/reinstall the informixdb module against the new 11.70 client environment, after which connections worked normally (the old .so appeared to have been corrupted/mis-built).

Hello friends, in IDS 11.70 i get the following error message after CONNECT: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------- >>> import informixdb >>> c = informixdb.connect('forenstat') Traceback (most recent call last): File "<stdin>", line 1, in <module> _informixdb.DatabaseError: SQLCODE -28021 in CONNECT: IX000: A trusted connection was not established because a trusted context is not defined or enabled for the specified authorization ID. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------- I use the informixdb-Python-API written by Carsten Haese and it works fine until IDS 11.50. Does anyone know what this means "authorization ID"? Thanks Christian Winterhager

The Connection is local without user and password, as you see in the
statement
conn = informixdb.connect("dbname")
BTW: it doesn't matter what you give as parameter in the
PYthon-API-.informixdb-Connection-Statement.
See the code in this example:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------------------------
cw@vonhaeften:/db/inf/etc> python
Python 2.6.2 (r262:71600, Jun 17 2010, 13:37:45)
[GCC 4.4.1 [gcc-4_4-branch revision 150839]] on linux2
Type "help", "copyright", "credits" or "license" for more information.
>>> import informixdb
>>> conn = informixdb.connect ("aaaaaaa")
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "<stdin>", line 1, in <module>
_informixdb.DatabaseError: SQLCODE -28021 in CONNECT:
IX000: A trusted connection was not established because a trusted
context is not
defined or enabled for the specified authorization ID.
>>> conn = informixdb.connect ("test1", user="cw", password="xxx")
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "<stdin>", line 1, in <module>
_informixdb.DatabaseError: SQLCODE -28021 in CONNECT:
IX000: A trusted connection was not established because a trusted
context is not
defined or enabled for the specified authorization ID.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------------------------
Wether you give user oder password or both or nothing from both, or you
give a non existent db-name
or an existent dbname - it's always the same result.
I think it must have to do with a new feature of th
CONNECT-11.70-Statement, the key-word "trusted" at the end.
Furthermore in 11.70 there is a new concept of "trusted context", see
the new statement CREATE TRUSTED CONTEXT.
If i use only dbaccess to connect to mey databases, i have no problems,
its only my Python-API, which gives these
error messages. The author of "informixdb", Carsten Haese, daid, that it
must have to do with some new feature of the
new Version 11.70, but he couldn't say which.
Thanks
Christian
The best thing to do would be to open a PMR. Tech support may bring some
doubts because you're not using an IBM driver...
Maybe the author could help...I don't know how the driver/module was built,
which versions of IBM software it uses...
Error 28021 looks definitively related with Trusted Context, one of the new
IDS features. You haven't been testing it right?
Regards.

In this case it was the best thing to read the new 11.70 manuals :-)
Although i don't understand exactly the details of this new concept i
solved the problem by
executing some statements with "dbaccess":
1. In the database sususers:
GRANT DBSECADM TO informix (given as user "informix")
2. As user informix in all databases which you want to connect:
CREATE TRUSTED CONTEXT mytcx
BASED UPON CONNECTION USING SYSTEM AUTHID cw
ATTRIBUTES (ADDRESS '192.168.178.20')
WITH USE FOR PUBLIC WITHOUT AUTHENTICATION
ENABLE
"cw": the userid which wants to connect
'192.168.178.20': local address of my db-server
After this the connection is correct established.
Regards and thanks

Err... Not exactly...
TRUSTED CONTEXT is one of my favorite new features. What you did was to
define that userid cw can change it's "user id" witin a connection he
established from that IP address. Maybe this is ok for you, and your
environment, but apparently the problem you had reveals a bug. That's why it
would be nice to open a PMR within IBM.
As you did you relaxed your security rules. It may be ok for your
environment, but that's not the intent of this feature to force the creation
of TRUSTED CONTEXT for situations where a normal connection would work.
I've seen a few bugs, but apparently they were pre-GA. But I didn't check
all the info properly.
What is you platforms? Windows 64bits?
Thanks for your info.
Regards.

It is not only the best way to read manuals but to reinstall components
like PYTHON-API "informixdb"
after installing a new Version of IDS.
So, after i installed Carstens Haese's PYTHON API "informixdb" with
exactly the new 11.70 Environment
i have no errors after CONNECT. Shame....
Best regards and many thanks

I'm sorry for insisting on this, but do you know what that "install" does?
Does it recompile anything?
I would say that an old client would connect to IDS 11.70...
Thanks again.

But now i think, this "old client" seems to be NOT the correct client, although it looks like.... I saw by using "diff" that the C Core "_informixdb.so" was sligthly different from the older one which i used some months ago. My be that this file was damaged by opening with "vi" and ":wq"... I think that i made at any time a mistake during install of informixdb, but it worked all the time without any errors until i installed IDS 11.70. And now, after carefully reinstalling all is going well and i have lost 2 workdays for struggling against the system. BTW i'm very content with this PYTHON-API for informix, i've written numerous programs with it. If you want more informations about "informixdb" and what the "install" does, you may have a look at http://informixdb.sourceforge.net/manual.html http://www.python.org/topics/database/DatabaseAPI-2.0.html Thanks and best regards
