Hi all, We have a Linux RH 6.0 system running SE and RDS. When there are about 45 users in the system, new users get forking errors. Is there a document that describes the tuning requirements of SE and Linux. Also, is the shadow password bug fixed yet? thanks in advance...
Most UNIX's have a limit on the number of outstanding children a process can have at once. Since for SE the sqlexecd listener daemon fork/execs the sqlexec process that each remote client uses to access the database, it looks like this daemon is reaching its limit. This limit is usually tunable in the kernel. I don't know how to do this for Linux. Art S. Kagel person1544 wrote: > > Hi all, > > We have a Linux RH 6.0 system running SE and RDS. Hi Art, Yes, Linux is somewhat different. We mostly use AIX which has not needed any kernel tuning for our applications. SCO does, however. It does appear that linux is different from either of these. We had a problem with Linux not opening enough files. We had to stuff values (at runtime) into the file "/proc/sys/fs/file-nr" to bring up the number. I suspect the same type of problem here, but cannot find the file to modify. I'm certain we aren't the only ones using SE with a hundred or so users, so I was hoping maybe Informix had written a tuning document, or some other kind soul has. Thanks Craig Bellusci Art S.
