V6 ontape Archives - Whole System Or Nothing ???

We're putting together a strategy for running multiple ontape archives simultaneously to speed archive time. However, it looks like with ontape that you can only archive the whole system ?!?!?! Howcome ??? Don't bother telling me about onarchive... I've been warned even by Informix people to allow it to 'mature' before using it on a production system. We also cannot use unload or tbunload since we need the concurrent update capability that ontape offers. Will this be added to ontape at sometime in the near future (I hope) ???
