UDO - 4GL use and training

We are a 4GL operation using the Informix Dynamic Server. We are seriously pursuing the idea of using the Universal Data Option to allow us to define some special data types. Among the data types are Word Processor originated documents. Our questions: 1. Are there any pitfalls in assuming we can simply define a document as an object and have it fit into our 4GL operation? We are looking at Dynamic 4GL but we are not in position to make that switch at this time. 2. Does anyone have experience with the Informix course "Extending the the Dynamic Server Using the Universal Data Option"? Is it adequate for beginning UDO work. What about the DataBlade API class.
