Strange results when piping results of bcheck
Posted in 1996
Hi people, When bcheck'ing a database for consistency I use the following command line: bcheck -y *.dat | tee results Of course, the idea behind the tee file is to check for errors after the bcheck command completes. However, when I check the resultant tee file for the results I get a lot of 'ERROR: bad data record' messages. In fact, this error message occurs for most of the tables. Curiously, he says scratching chin, if I perform a bcheck on a single database table without tee'ing the results to a file there is no error message returned. So can anyone explain what is going on and how can I capture the result of a full database bcheck to a file so that my shell script can check for errors before performing a back up. Thank you in advance for any help you can give, Cheers, Ian.
