After 10 years, we learned with 4gl that the -408 error message can not be pinpointed. We saw it come and go many times. At one point we could make it happen and make it not happen. What we found was that certain tables with "X" amount of columns did not have any problem. Then we altered table, and had problem....then we added more and more columns to table and problem disappeared. Without any real Informix help on this, we concluded there is this hidden issue when you might have more than 125-150 columns in a table....but one we added many more columns...over 200, problem went away. I forget exact number of columns of where it started and stopped but it was definitiely something to do with how many columns were in our tables. I remember a while back we just added a column we didnt even need to table and 408 error went away !!! Try it.....Hope this helps !!
