Just thought I would throw my $.02 in. I don't think you should read anything into the fact that Dell spoke at the conference. Scott Adams spoke too so does that mean Informix wants everyone to become cartoonists? He (Dell) spoke to provide a view of the computer business from someone who has made it happen. What needs to happen, as far as the linux question is concerned, is a quiet, business-oriented discussion of the issues involved--most likely off-line from this group. You all know who the major players are that want Informix on Linux, contact them and work it out -- posting periodic updates to the list so those of us lurking can keep track. What Informix wants and needs to see is the business value and proposition of porting to Linux. Where are the *real* applications anticipated to be? How many licenses could be *sold* not given away and at what price? Create a support model as well. It might be good to query the Linux community to see if they would be willing to pay for a database as robust as ODS as a first step. Keep the IIUG and the IUGLC involved along the way and let both help refine the work in process. Just my opinion.
