No direct experience, but I have researched this a bit myself. The way I understand it, it is not possible to run a single on-line instance across more than one node in an HACMP cluster to gain improved performance. HACMP is intended more as a means of having a "backup" system ready to take over quickly in case of a failure. e.g. Two nodes share the same disk array. Node 1 is the primary Informix server. Node 2 is a backup, which starts up Informix only if and when node 1 fails. This is assuming Online DS 7.x & earlier. Using Online XPS 8.x, it may be possible to distribute the server across multiple machines in an HACMP cluster, but I'm not sure. The IBM SP series definitely does allow this with Online XPS. You might use an HACMP cluster with Online DS 7.x in a configuration where one machine is the database server, another is the backup database server and other nodes act as primary and/or backup application servers. If you find out more, end up experimenting and/or implementing something with Informix & HACMP (or SP for that matter), I'd like to hear about it! -- Irwin Goldstein Objective Software Systems, Inc. http://www.objectsoft.com
