I am running dbaccess and then running command ' begin work', the
error message I get is : 256: Transaction not available.
so I find the error with finderr 256 that I must start a transaction log.
Could u help to give me solution how to start a transaction log?

As unser informix, run on command prompt:
ontape -s -L 0 -U <database name>
NB:
1. Make sure TAPEDEV parameter in ONCONFIG is pointing to /dev/null otherwise
it will take long time.
2. -U = Unbuffered
You can use -B for buffered as well.
3. Better refer manual and will depend upon your business requirement
Cheers.

You are going to have to convert your database from unlogged to
logged, which means doing an archive and changing the mode after doing
so. You'll need to look up the details for ON-Bar and ON-Tape in the
manuals.
Alternatively, create a new (logged) database, cross-loading the data
from the old. That might be DB-Export and DB-Import, or other methods
of your choosing.
