RE: insert ROW LEVEL trigger question

Nigel, This is a popular question! The short answer is "no." You cannot use an insert trigger to directly set a column value. There are two options I can think of which might help. First, have you thought about the "..with default.." part of defining a column? This might work for you if you are coding a time stamp, constant, or the like. Secondly, you might get tricky with triggers and procedures. For example, use an after insert trigger to go through the table and update the column value in every row. Like I said, no clean solution, but maybe one of those will serve your purposes. --Craig (craig@chemistry.utah.edu) > > I cannot tell from the Online 7.x docs if I should be able to setup a row > level insert trigger which assigns values to columns of the inserted row > via calls to a stored procedure.
