Re: Restores
Posted in 2010
Hi,
it looks like the problem is caused by version checking.
But this version checking is done for a reason. Not only
the actual version is checked, but also the edition (which
is also done by looking at the version string). This is
a restriction because an Enterprise Edition has more
capabilities and features than e.g. the Workgroup or
Express Editions. Think of compression, encryption, etc.
Not doing the check would currently open some
loopholes that would allow the use of features in
Express or Workgroup Edition that are not available or
have not been purchased as add ons. This would then
cause a licensing conflict.
I see that this is unfortunate in cases where such
features are not used in Enterprise Edition and the
restore to a "lower" Edition would not cause any
licensing conflicts.
At the moment I can only recommend to you to place a
feature request via IBM Informix Technical Support
or via your sales representative (or both channels)
to get this limitation lifted. A valid solution, I think,
would be the implementation of a more elaborate
check for possible license conflicts instead of just
relying on version string comparison during restore.
Regards, Martin
