This is why you are falling onto a second tape! Just change TAPESIZE 12000000 if the drive is 12GB non-compressed or if the capacity is 12GB compressed (is the /dev/rmt/1m device a compressed device?) than use 10GB or TAPESIZE 10000000 since binary data does not compress as well as the tape drive manufacturers would like to believe it does (if your data is mostly text you may get closer to the 12GB ideal).
