Apologies, flames, and using the net
Posted in 1993
My dear friend Jon, Lots of others have already said this kind of thing, but I want to add my personal assurance about how much I value your input. I did not see (or at least not recognize) the message that led to your recent apology. It's just as well, since such flaming should be written off as human nature, and then ignored. You have provided help and information to untold numbers of netters, either with a direct reply or because someone who was ABOUT to ask a question found the answer they needed in your reply to someone else. I say, "Keep up the good work!" If an answer you provided turned out to be incorrect, so what? As you say, you are not providing the official Informix answer, you're just doing your best. Unfortunately, I have posted several "answers" that later turned out to be incorrect. The only way I let it affect me is that I now restrict my postings to the stuff that I am pretty sure about. If I only "sorta" know about a subject, then I let the message pass and assume that someone else will answer it. I have stopped trying to be Batman to all the world's Robins. With professional respect and deepest regards, Alan +------------------------------+---------------------------------------+ | R.
