951 error - question

Hate to ask and run - too many meetings so little time.... I seem to remember a discussion of this a month or so back. I didn't pay any attention, now it afflicts me as we try to bring up an online7.23 (or so) instance. The SHM connection works fine. Onmoniutoir complains that network is down. hosts.equiv and .rhosts are both set up as are sqlhosts and etc/services something I forgot? cheers j.
