Kansas Highlights
Posted in 2008
This is an off-topic thread with no Informix technical content. It began with a jokey quibble about the IIUG January newsletter describing Kansas as home to the only World War One museum in the USA, prompting a pedantic aside about the war's dates and a jibe about America entering both world wars late. The discussion turned into light-hearted (and occasionally touchy) exchanges about Midwestern hospitality, US foreign policy and whether such a topic belongs in comp.databases.informix. No technical problem is raised and no resolution is recorded.

Very strange topic here in c.d.i. Maybe on the more positive side for those of you ignorant Europeans that will be coming to America, you'll get to see the very heartland of America. Midwesterners are hard-working, many are descendants from Europeans who fled Europe for a variety of reasons. As boring as Kansas is, it would indeed be an education for Europeans who have never seen America where there are smaller towns and villages, away from the larger cities. You will find a part of America with open doors for visitors from other countries, eager to offer and share their lives with you, something you won't find in other parts of the country. As much as Kansas is boring to the extreme, on balance you will find the best of Americans there, people who think fondly of Europe and their lineage from your first-world. Come to America with an open mind and open heart and you will be received the same way. Along the way you will learn something about yourself in the process. Many Americans gave their lives for Europe, never to return to America alive, something we never forget, and neither should you. Unfortunately we've learned our lesson and have since become the world's police. ;-P Of course the truth is that we had to wait until we were attacked before we "officially" stepped in. Don't confuse Arkansas with Kansas, or DeepThroat here with Chuck Norris. Although, reading these notes I was on the one hand amused and on the other hand offended, InDeep hit a number of good points here. Full disclosure: my mother and my namesake (died in WWII) are from Kansas. j. -----Original Message----- From: informix-list-bounces@iiug.org [mailto:informix-list-bounces@iiug.org]On Behalf Of Zachi Sent: Friday, January 04, 2008 6:45 PM To: informix-list@iiug.org Subject: Re: Kansas Highlights On Jan 4, 2:01 pm, InDeep <ind...@indeep.com> wrote: > Very strange topic here in c.d.i. > > Maybe on the more positive side for those of you ignorant Europeans that > will be coming to America, you'll get to see the very heartland of America. > > Midwesterners are hard-working, many are descendants from Europeans who fled > Europe for a variety of reasons.
