This only works if the server has a xdm (or equivalent) running and respondind to the network. I believe this is the default configuration in alpha machines, but not so in Linux and others. On the windows machine, after installing cygwin with xserver just create a windows shortcut with this target: C:\\cygwin\\bin\\bash.exe --login -c "X -query YourIfxServer -nodecoration &" If you encounter font problems like I did, you should use the fonts installed in the alpha. To do this, you should run a font server (xfs) in the server and add the "-fp YourFontPath" to the command in the windows shortcut target. If I recall it right, it should be like "X -fp tcp/YourServer:7100 ...". Hope this helps.
