AIX 4.3.3.
RS6000/ UNIX
Installed version IDS 7.31UD5 over the weekend and then did "ontape -s -L 0"
backup,
the message log says the backup completed, but right after it show the
following error:
Assert Failed: Memory block header corruption detected in
mt_shm_malloc__segid 2,and produces a dump. This happens every time I do a backup. I opened a case
with informix
and they are telling me that this is a bug...the dump that it produced
reports that the backup up is good however the only way to be sure is to do
a restore.
Therefore I would like to take this level 0 backup and restore it on another
server.
These are my questions since I have never done this:
What things have to be identical to Server(A) in order to do the restore on
Server(B)?
Does the Database name have to be the same?
Does it have to have the same number of logical logs?
The dbspaces named are identical on both Server however Server( B) is a bit
smaller.
Informix said this is fixed in IDS 7.31UD6W8, due to schedule constrains I
can not install right now.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Silvana
Thanks for
your response....
I did call informix and they told me that in order to do a
restore on another server(B)
*
I would need the dbspace "name & size" to be exactly the same as the
one created by the "ontape -s -L 0".
*
The onconfig used to created the backup Server (A) must be setup
exactly the same on the new server(B).
*
Setup the SQLHOST.
*
RULED TO REMEMBER: Any parameter having to do with READS or WRITES
to disk have to be exactly the same, Any parameters having to do with memory
can be changed.
I also found out that I could us "archecker -t" to verify that the backup is
good.
Regards,
Silvana

Hi Silvana,
what you need is to have the Informix Installation. If you want to restore
the whole DB you don't need to have the dbspaces, but I guess it will not
make sense if they're there.
The Instance should be created nearly the same as on original server
I do not make a full restore before, but it should work if you use ontape -r
