Re: Informix versus oracle
Answered: red (solid confidence) — Original question (Vincento Harris asking for a good introductory Informix book) is only quoted, not archived as its own message; the visible thread is purely an opinion debate about manual/documentation quality with no book ever recommended.

I've won awards. No doubt you and just about everyone else has. But hand those manuals to someone new with a background in another product and see how productive they are? Look at all of the questions asked here at c.d.i. or at any of the other usenet groups about these products. The manuals are far better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick ... but not great. We have decimated the English language. To be a hero no longer means to demonstrate heroism ... merely to be an innocent victim. Award winning similarly doesn not mean what one might wish it did. The phrase has been gutted by the fact that everyone gets awards. Even Microsoft gets awards. Awards don't make Windows stable and awards don't make documentation good. I think we've beaten this one to death. Don't you? -- Daniel Morgan http://www.outreach.washington.edu/extinfo/certprog/oad/oad_crs.asp damorgan@x.washington.edu (replace 'x' with a 'u' to reply)
