PLEASE HELP --- Informix SE and Uniface 6 --- PLEASE HELP

We have just embarked on a project with a third party supplier which will implement a system using Uniface 6 (the supplier is providing this). We want to continue using our existing RDBMS which is Informix SE 7.24 running on HP/UX10.2 The supplier is now saying that Informix SE cannot be used because it locks at the table level. That is not my understanding of Informix locking - I thought it supported row level locking. Could someone confirm this? Is there a problem with Informix 7 and Uniface 6? Could it be something to do with the way these two products interact? Or, could it be because the suppliers two 'preferred' databases are Oracle and SQL server. Could it be that the SQL is slightly different for those and for whatever reason that means that Informix attempts table level locks?
