passing the dynamic variables(values) to a file through Stored

I am looking for help regarding stored procedures. I am creating a procedure to run Whenever a user updates the table' field, a trigger fires the procedure and passes the values to procedure. Procedure has to send the email to a group of user list. I want to write the labels and values to a file and mail that file. I am running on Unix environment. I know how to send email in stored procedures by using system command. I wrote the label line to a file. I am having the problem to write dynamic values to the file. I can write in shell file like this echo " $var1 $var2 $var3 " >> file Informix is not accepting the $ in procedure. How I can write the variable to a file in stored procedure. Please help me.
