I had to give up this particular project and go back to :my old development tools (a Unix BASIC, of all things), which of course set :us back considerably and is forcing us to outsource some processing ($$$). If you have a contract you should be able to declare a priority 1 or 2 case and there is no way a stop in trying to fix it is acceptable. An upgrade may be required to do that tough. :Informix really is used to run whole businesses, isn't it? That's why we :bought it, with the intent of replacing our current BASIC system... I :imagine I just need to either fix some Unix configuration parameters or get :the most recent version, assuming it's available on my platform (AT&T :MP-RAS 2.03.01), but we're paying a goodly amount for support... I don't know about your machine and the latest version available on that, but for your information OnLine 7.10.UC2 is realy old by now. We are still running 7.10.UC1 because and update is a little hard for us (we have to upgrade the os (SCO) at the same time), but there are several bugs. I can easily crash the engine (with assert failure) with a simple and correct 4GL program or get very wrong results from correct and simple sql-statements - in a reliable way. These are all reported to Informix, and i think fixed in later releases. If you can't get the latest release (7.12 or 7.13 I think) on your platform you may be out of luck until a port is available. If the AT&T MP-RAS 2.03.01 is a current machine (NCR?) making Informix port to it shouldn't be too difficult in the light of the expanded bussiness relationship between Informix and NCR. If it's not current you may have to switch platform. If we all expect Informix to port to every old box and OS we would get less of the highly important new developments. That's simply life. (With an appropriate support contract things should be different, and probably are, but I would still change the hardware or os in such a situation if at all possible.) :I would be a tired Informix programmer if I were programming in Informix! :<wry grin> We know the bugs, and have been able to program around them so we can run our mission critical applications reliably even on the old version. And I am not at all tired - awake, alive and enjoing life :-) With a newer version you might want to try again. This is realy great software and in the engine bussiness Informix is far ahead of the pack.
