Re: Determining version dynamically
Posted in 1999
OK I have several 7.24 servers that were upgraded in-place from 7.23 or 7.21
and the VERSION records still show 7.21UC1. However, I just checked the only
in-place upgrade I have from 7.24 to 7.31 and that one DOES show 7.31UC2 with a
create date of the date of the upgrade in May while the other catalog tables
still show the original create dates last year! So either the 7.2x series did
not modify this record or it is only modified if there is a change to the table
or index structures or something.

Are you sure? I thought it told you the most recent version of
the server that was different in some way. I agree it might not
tell you the exact version of the current server, but it will be
close. Sufficient to distinguish 7.1 from 7.2, etc.

I guess this would work; painfully expensive with a 9.x database!
