RE: Remote Databases
Posted in 2004
Chris Yes, there will be a significant difference. Using synonyms all the selected data from the remote tables is pulled onto your RS6000 before any sorts take place. Also your RS6000 is still having to contend with the application and database running together. You are also having to duplicate effort by archiving on two different machines, you might have consistency problems if you need to restore. Move your database entirely over to the Linux box and configure it to be a dedicated DB server (you will also benefit from the data reorganisation). Remove the database from the RS6000 and re-configure it to be a dedicated application server. Use the access method you have by changing INFORMIXSERVER and sqlhosts (I have 550 user sessions connecting to a database, albeit on the same box, using ontlitcp with no problems).
