Re: database engine

I guess what bothers me about the enging pricing is that there is no value added for the development engine. Why should a development engine cost more than a run-time engine? I grant that Informix has done developers a "favor" by providing cheaper, stripped-down, run-time versions of 4GL and SQL. But from the engine's point of view, what difference is there if 100 programmers are compiling 4GL modules, or 100 accountants are running canned programs? Also, I wish the licensing reflected that we have 5 programmers who need the development tools, and 200 users for whom the run-time is sufficient. Instead, we have purchase a development license for all 205 (at least this makes a _little_ sense to me, though). -- David Schmitt, Systems Administrator Voice: (708)632-5562 Cellular Subscriber Group MIS FAX: (708)632-4421 Motorola, Inc., Room S356 Email: daves@csg.gss.mot.com 1475 W.
