Reducing Checkpoints duration

Hello all! I'm using INFORMIX Dyamic Server Workgroup Edition 7.20.UC2 on SCO OpenServer and I'm getting checkpoints that lasts until 20 seconds . I reduced LRU_MAX_DIRTY and LRU_MIN_DIRTY to 10 and 5 respectively and the CHKPTINTVL to 60. I'm still getting checkpoints around 10 seconds. I have been monitoring the LRU's queue and the flushers activities and apparently the buffers are not being cleaning when reach the LRU_MAX_DIRTY parameter.
