If you do not have access to working 4GL code, I would strongly recommend your getting a copy of one of those utilities or similar, if only to see how things are done. It probably wouldn't hurt to get one of the how-to books on 4GL. Some of the current (and soon to be announced) authors of such participate in this newsgroup. There are many ways to do things in 4GL, but as it turns out, only a few *good* ways. Any effort you put into improving your learning curve rather than hacking away by yourself will be worth it. You can get a copy of db4glgen from Dave's e-mail/uucp archive at das13.snide.com, or from the anon ftp archive I maintain on mathcs.emory.edu (IP 128.140.2.1). There are other files on mathcs that are examples of 4GL code.
